Okay so this year I finally decided I needed to become more active in the community. Heck I'm 30 years old and what have I accomplished other than being a wife and mother?? Nothing much that I can list. So, I volunteered to help sell ads for the paper that is put out for the Salt Festival, not sure what the "correct" name of this newpaper thing is called though. Monday was my first day to try to sell ads and what do you know......all of the places in town that I wanted to hit except for 2 was closed!!! Yeppers!! Apparently nothing is open here on Monday!! So my plan for this coming week is to do it on a Tuesday!
This year is going to be done a bit differently than the 2 years before. There will be vendors in town on Friday AND Saturday, although more are expected on Saturday than Friday. Friday will be the Rodeo Associate Parade and Saturday morning will be the Salt Festival Parade, why two different days?? Heck if I know??? I wondered the same thing but didn't really hear why.
Here's the line up so far:
Wednesday Night
Various gospal groups starting at 6pm - 9/9:30pm - Free Admission
Thursday Night
Whiskey Fish - 9pm (ish) - Admission $5
Friday Night
Rodeo starts at 8pm (not sure if this is the Grand Entry or the first event)
Kelly Moore Band takes the stage I think around 8/9pm
Saturday
Parade 10am
Pet Show 10:30am
Horse shoe contest
Car Show
Kiddy capers
Vendors (arts and crafts and food) 10am-????
Rodeo (see Friday Night)
Star Search 7pm-9pm
Whiskeyfish taking stage around 9pm (I think)
Daryle Singletary takes stage at 11pm
~~~Admission for Whiskeyfish/Daryle Singletary is $10 advance/$12 at the door~~~
Special cups are going to be sold for the street dance and possibly for special drink prices around town..........check back for more details!!!!

2008 Summer t-ball news
Last night I got the call! We are preparing for our 2nd summer of t-ball. As of right now we do not have a name but should shortly. Sarah is super excited because she and the only remaining Sassy Girl from last season get to play again together this summer!! I however might be more excited than she is!! Her coach is Mrs. Jada (Violet) Fisher and some of the members of the team include 2 other Sarah's and the daughter of Mrs. Brandi (Autry) Rumsfield. Along with a whole list of other kiddos, I'm not sure how many total there are! Anyway, Jada, Brandi & I played t-ball together YEARS ago as the Lil' Fillies. We are going to practice on Mondays and Thursdays I think is what Jada said and will be starting the first part of April!! Can't wait!!!!!
First Post
Okay, it's March 2008 and I "THINK" I'm going to finally get into blogging........THINK being the key word!! I'm sitting here at home at almost 12:30am Tom left for work about 10:30ish, Josh has NO sign of going to sleep although things are getting quiet down the hallway, so either he is really into his movie or has finally fallen asleep! Let's see what to say??? I've been married now for 7 years, Tom and I just celebrated the 8th anniversary of our 1st date earlier this month! Yep, it was a quick courtship, we started dating the beginning of March and married the 11th of November. Sarah was born September 2001 and Joshua September 2005. We originally lived here in good old Grand Saline when we first married then moved to McKinney to put him closer to work. I ended up going to work for the company that his dad was the manager of the warehouse originally pulling orders and assembling those little gifts that they give you at the cosmetic counter when you purchase X $'s. I started in Oct 03 and by Dec 03 I was moved into the Domestic Wholesale Order department and took over the department in January 04! We moved when the company relocated to Houston in Oct 04 to Stafford, Texas (which is Southwest of Houston) and then to Rosenberg (which is further southwest toward Victoria on Hwy 59). Josh was born in Sept 05 after evacuating for Hurricane Rita (which didn't even hit our side of Houston) and a 17 hour drive from Houston to Grand Saline. Needless to say I was ready to move home. Tom stayed in Houston until June 06 staying in his dad's garage apartment behind their house and made lots of trips back up here to visit us.
FASTFORWARD to 2008!!!
(Okay Nov 2007)Tom gets on with Morton Salt and here in another week or so he will finally have in his 90 working days!!! He's got a bid in on a job in the maintenance department which we have our fingers crossed that he gets b/c it will put him on a 7a-3p shift being the first on callouts "could" be the only downside, but the upside to the downside is it is automatically 4 hours even if he is just there for 1!!!
I'm still waiting tables at Papadales' during the day and I'm normally home by about 5:30. Most days the tips are good and we have a pretty regular lunch crowd so there isn't much that happens during the day. Nights can be a different story. We've had 2 girls quit/get fired within the past week!!! Other than employee problems in the evenings the customers are a pretty tame group!
Sarah is in Kindergarten this year, she has Mrs. Surratt for her teacher. She LOVES school, she loves learning and hates it when they have to wait an entire week before they learn something new. I try to teach her things at home and she looses interest with me trying to teach her. She has a great memory and would rather be told what a word is and remember it the next time she sees it than for me to try to get her to sound it would to figure the word out on her own. I get frustrated and she gets frustrated and we both give up.
Joshua goes to TLC and boy has that helped him! When he first started going he would have rather had a leg cut off than for me to leave him at school. Now??? He normally leaves me at the front door! I swear everyone that works there knows him by name, I don't know if all of the other kids are all known by name by teachers that aren't theirs or if Josh just has that kind of personality. I know that he has come out of his shell. We can be at the store and he will randomly pick out people and yell at them until the speak to him. It's embarrassingly cute b/c he starts out saying, "Hey!" and if they don't answer, "hey, lady/man" and if they still don't answer he will keep repeating it louder and louder until they finally do. Of course the whole time I'm trying to get him to stay quiet! Needless to say I try my hardest to go to the store before I have to pick him up and don't take my weekly Wal~Mart trips like we used to.
